I am sharing this post, from a friend who goes by Simple Dimple. It expresses how I feel, very well.
People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do with that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
Often people move through your life for more than one of the above reasons. And sometimes they move from one reason to another. Lifetime friends can be helpful when you need them, but needy themselves at other times. This can be confusing for both, but usually works out if given time.

That is certainly the truth!

The lifetime ones are the real blessings.
Sometimes the others too for lessons or reasons.

Everyone seems to be a blessing. Some are blessings in very heavy disguise.

Thank you for sharing!! How interesting it is that every person that comes into our lives adds something to it. Whether it be life lessons that helped us grow or love that we needed at the right time.

Indeed it’s a helpful perspective, Gary. A friend once gave me that quote when I was appalled by the betrayal of a different friend. It helped me to think of relationships that way. Hugs!

People float in and out, and that’s okay, so long as no harm is done.

This is a wonderful share! Yes, they could come for a reason, a lesson or forever!

In all cases, I tend to reflect on their presence, sometimes to excess, which puzzles the fleeting interlopers among them.

I agree with Janet, that often people pass through life, and pick up friends as they go.
