May 12, 2017, Prescott-
On an insight received today:
Your shout at me
was really at him.
Your scream ricocheted,
way back to that day.
I kept you in,
and kept you safe,
He kept you in,
and scarred you for life.
The life I want to give
back to you,
little man,
is that which he stole,
is that which you
deserve.
That is so often the case. It certainly helps to respond appropriately when we remember that the words aren’t about us at all.

I would have left the profession, long ago, had I started taking it personally.

Makes you think hard about parent-child relationships.in general but this poem also has the drama and suspense. Very well-written.

My relationships with my students and clients have always had a paternal cast. It is how I am wired.

We can never truly understand what will remind a survivor of past trauma. The onus is on each of us to try even if we can’t succeed. Your heart is big enough to show him that not every adult will betray him…
